I was tired my old casual silver rims. New rims cost a lot, so respraying them was a wise solution.
First I cleaned rims good with wheel cleaner. Iron x or K2 roton are good solution in combination with brush and pressure washer.
Then I sanded them with sand pad to remove all the dust from brakes. I also used dremel tool to removed scratches.
After rims were cleaned I sanded them with 500 and 800 sand paper with water and soap mixed.
Then I protected them with tape and some newspaper.
With filler I repaired small scratches and sanded it with 500 sand paper.
Then it was time for aluminium primer. One can was enough for all 4 rims. Make sure you spray it in thin layers and leave it for 4 hours.
At local shop I bought 3 dcl of acryl paint, I choosed bmw wa22 paint. I didn’t want my car all black. I sprayed with a gun, because it was cheaper, I could also use spray cans.
It was time to spray them. I mixed paint with thinner (1 dcl paint : 1 dcl of thinner) .
Sprayed very thin layers, first edges and holes. I needed to paint some internal part of rim, because otherwise it was seen from outside. I sprayed 4 layers of paint.
I left them dry for 1,5 hour and than it was time for clear coat. Clear coat protects a paint. It is must on a wheels. It also gives paint more depth.
I mixed 2 dcl of paint and 1 dcl of hardener and I added some thinner.
Sprayed thin layers of clear coat again I think that 4 layers. Then let them dry for 2 days, although they were dried in 4 hours.
Here is a result. I’m quite satisfied with result. Be aware that prep work is everything when you are painting something.
